Presentation and Professional Education

Maybe you are asking yourself some of these questions: why do familiar patterns keep repeating themselves in relationships? How come things just don’t feel right? Maybe you feel dissatisfied or stuck in a rut? Perhaps you feel there is no one who can really listen and understand you? Or you may be struggling with health issues or chronic illness. Sometimes psychological or emotional unease manifests itself psychosomatically and there is further pain and discomfort. Early relationships and past experiences often influence how you are in your current life situation; reflected by your thoughts, feelings and actions.

I am a registered psychotherapist with the Psychotherapy Council of New Zealand, and have more than 25 years experience in mental health (clinical psychology), special education, psychotherapy, body-psychotherapy, trauma therapy, psychosomatic psychotherapy, and alternative medicine.

I was born and raised in Lebanon in a diverse multi cultural, multi confessional and multi lingual society where life looked as a mix of successions of “paradise and hell on earth”. As a teenager, I witnessed and experienced ten years of civil and regional war unfolding in the country. Following the completion of a master degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychopathology, I moved from Lebanon to Paris in France.

There, over a number of years, I expanded my professional education in Clinical Psychology, Psychoanalysis, Special education and Body Psychotherapy (Biodynamic Psychotherapy and Massage) and gained, over more than ten years, a rich and diverse work and clinical experience in different organisations, as well as in private practice. Eighteen years ago, I moved to New Zealand, furthering my education in the mind-body medicine realm, by completing in 2004 two training programmes in Osteopathy and Classical Homeopathy. Since, I have been in full private practice in three locations in Central Auckland.

Approaches and modalities

My approach is strongly holistic, relational, person, emotion and body centred, integrating emotion, affects, sensations, thoughts, dreams, family constellation, and body language and expression, therefore acknowledging unity of our experience of our body and soul. Through the therapeutic work with my clients, I value the link between the present and the past, the personal and the familial, and the projections and longings into the future. My approach is gentle, supportive, affirming, non-judgemental, “spacious”, creative, dynamic and generous, and based on the large and diverse professional education and experience that I have and continue to expand.

I am committed to continuous education and development, both on a professional level, related to all my specialities, and also on a personal level.

Special Interests and Expertise

Today my professional interests has shifted strongly to a more integrative and holistic psychotherapy practice with clients, of medium to long-term duration, in the following three areas of expertise:

  I.    Individual Therapy
  II.   Couples Therapy
  III.  Relational Psychosomatic Psychotherapy

 Individual Therapy

In individual psychotherapy, my areas of interest are traumas and stress, relationship and sexuality, porn use, identity, self-esteem, anxiety and depression (including post-natal depression), acculturation, “dissatisfaction’ in life and desire of pursuing personal dreams and life path, and finally family and trans-generational constellations.

Couple Therapy

I have a specific training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples that usually involve a short to medium term structured approach therapy, which explores couples struggles patterns, and helps to build a emotionally secure and lasting bond within the relationship, and creating closeness, trust and connection. Some of my particular interests in couple therapy are culturally “mixed” couples, sexual difficulties and trauma difficulties.

Relational Psychosomatic Psychotherapy

Relational Psychosomatic Psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach, (developed initially in France, but practiced internationally) that aims at reaching and understanding a unique human being at a critical time of their life (their disease or ill-physical condition), as a unity, transcending the distinction between soul and body.

This therapeutic model is of great value and benefit helping people, where a particular relational life event or stressor situation is suspected to be behind the manifestation of a specific physical illness or condition such as:

  1. Chronic pain, headaches, asthma, allergies, epilepsy, hypertension, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, endocrine disorders, etc.
  2. Auto-immune diseases, and
  3. All types of cancers.

I use this approach with clients presenting with a physical illness or condition, and eager to explore and work through underlying conflictive situations, presenting as an impasse or a gridlock. This helps understand how a particular pathology or dysfunction of the real body finds its place in a unique entirety, which is life itself.

Through the therapeutic effort the impasse, which cannot be solved, is dissolved, because the person has changed while recovering their vital forces.

Languages

I am entirely fluent in English, French and Arabic (and have a solid interest in some other Latin languages) and offer my consultations in these three languages.
