Experience : My background as a professional classical musician developed my interest in the use of music for therapeutic benefit. I have worked in allied health as a music therapist for the past 14 years working with children, adolescents and adults in diverse settings.
Specialisms : I enjoy supporting people on their journey of self-discovery, to find a deeper understanding and meaning of life’s experiences. I work with depression and anxiety, grief and loss, trauma/PTSD and abuse, anger, relationship challenges, performance anxiety and people who experience a generalised dissatisfaction in life.
When requested I can incorporate music in your experience of talk therapy to support expression and exploration of your experience in a different way.
Approach : I am a qualified and registered psychotherapist who works with adults and is dedicated to creating an accepting and non-judgemental therapeutic space. I use a psychodynamic approach that focuses on exploring unconscious thoughts, bringing meaning and understanding to how earlier experiences have impacted current feelings and behaviours. The aim being to improve quality of life, reduce stress, improve coping mechanisms and strengthen relationships.
I also draw on a person-centred approach, used in both psychotherapy and music therapy, trauma-informed psychotherapy and Jungian theory.
Qualifications : Master of Psychotherapy (in progress) (AUT), Post Grad Diploma in Psychotherapy Studies (AUT), Master of Music Therapy (RMT), Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music
Professional Membership : I am a registered psychotherapist with the Psychotherapy Board of Aotearoa New Zealand (PBANZ) and a Full Member of the New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists (APANZ). I am also a registered Music Therapist and full member of Music Therapy New Zealand.
Fees : $170 including GST per session (55mins). I offer in-person and online sessions.
